This is a
trustworthy saying. And I want you to
stress these things, so that those who have trusted
in God may be careful to devote themselves to
doing what is good. These things are
excellent
and profitable for everyone. (Titus 2:3)
Ministering to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith is the first duty of a deacon. The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ.

The deacons are in charge of welcoming
people to church every Sunday morning and are responsible for collecting the
offering at the church services. They also
prepare the sacraments for the communion service when it is scheduled. The Mile of Pennies is an ongoing fund raiser
that the deacons collect once a month with the morning offering. They use that money to minister to people by
sending gift certificates to college students during their finals, by sending
flowers and/or cards to shut-ins and people who are sick. There are two church services during the year
that the deacons help make special. They
provide balloons for the Pentecost Service and line the walkway with luminaries
for the Christmas Eve candlelight service.
They also make a quarterly donation to the Hope Center for the food
pantry. This year they have also held a
spring and a fall rummage sale to help with the needs of our church. Last year they initiated a prayer chain that
continues to be an active project.
Transportation can be arranged by the deacons to church members, if
there is a need. The deacons meet quarterly throughout the year. Their mission is to take care of the church family,
and they serve with all their gladness.
