December 25th 2005 1John 4:7

December 25th, 2005                1 John 4:7-16

Merry Christmas!  For today's podcast click here!

1 John 4:7-9 “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.”

There is a great hymn of the church, commonly used at funerals and at Easter, it came to mind as I read the passage for this Christmas morning.  It is called, “Because He Lives.”  It goes like this:
“God sent his Son they called him Jesus; he came to love, heal, and forgive.  He lived and died to buy my pardon, an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.  Because he lives I can face tomorrow; because he lives all fear is gone; because I know he holds the future, and life is worth the living just because he lives.”

Sometimes, I think the best way for us to understand Christmas is to remember Easter.  That which began in a manger ends on a cross and three days later with an empty tomb.  Because he lives, so do we, because he was born, life everlasting is available.  And all the magi, the shepherds, the children, and Christians everywhere know today is a day for rejoicing!

And so my friends, my good Christian friends, rejoice!  Christ the Savior is born!  Merry Christmas!

All praise to you Heavenly Father; all praise to you Holy Spirit; and all praise to you Jesus Christ, the King of all kings, born this glorious day!  Amen.
